An introvert's thoughts on group travel...
So here's the deal. I'm an introvert. Meeting new people makes me nervous. Meeting a large group of new people makes my knees all wobbly and my tummy do backflips. It's not pretty. At least when Tony's with me I can hide behind his big extroverted personality for a while until I feel comfortable. Yes, I know what you're thinking. Then why did we choose to take a tour where we would have to meet a big ol' group of strangers? Because I'm smart! And over the years I've learned that once I get past feeling like I'm going to pass out, things usually turn out fine. Well, that and the fact that I can hide behind Tony if I need to.
However, Rick Steves tour groups are smaller, a maximum of 28 people, which is about half the size of a traditional tour group. So, we really got to know everyone quickly, and our guides were so great about making everyone feel comfortable right off the bat. Rick Steves Tours attract like-minded people, so we all felt like old friends in no time.
So, to my fellow introverts, I tell you this. Traveling with a group was not only NOT awful, it was pretty darn great. Take a deep breath, say hello, and get ready to have the time of your life!
